Become a Tsogo Class Ambassador (July Alumni Society Update)

Volunteer, be the One

Anyone who matriculated at Tsogo High School between 1978 & 2009 and is willing to link up with old friends can volunteer to become a Class Ambassador (CA) …. (as long you remain committed to act as a liaison between the school / society and your old class mates!)

Tsogo Class Ambassadors are those individuals who volunteer to act as the liaison between the school/the alumni society and the individual’s own past matric class mates. Class Ambassadors (CAs) will be required to find, collect information/data and maintain regular contact with individuals from his/her matric year. CAs will in turn communicate vital information, requests and updates from the Tsogo Alumni Society and the school to their old class mates. CAs may also organise or assist in organising 5 year, 10 year, 15 year, etc. ‘class reunions’ as desired by members of that class year.

Tsogo Alumni 4th Annual Careers & Study Expo
Thursday 25th March 2010

Report By Thabo Ncalo

The first quarter in 2010 has been a productive one for the alumni society. We’re glad to report that our 4th Annual Expo was a great success! This year we managed to host  7 academic institutions and  12 companies / organisations and exposed all Tsogo Grade 9 to 12 learners (approximately 400 learners) to a range of careers and study fields.

In true Tsogo tradition the event opened with some melodic singing and prayer at assembly followed by a welcome address from Mr. Assi (school principal) . He welcomed all guests and alumni  – and especially Mr. Thema  who is the Circuit Manager (Bojanala Region) in the Department of Education.

The welcome address was followed by  a brief address by Mr. Thabo Ncalo (Alumni society secretary) who spoke about the role of alumni at Tsogo and the importance of instilling a culture of giving-back. He urged the learners to “be inquisitive” and ask many questions as possible – both on the day and generally in life.

“OUTSTANDING!

The Pretoria News carried a story with the headline “Prime moment for a high achiever” on January 8th 2010 following the 2009 Matric Results’ release. It was about a matric learner from Ga-Rankuwa who obtained 8 distinctions in the matric exams last year. This high achiver is a young man known by everyone at Tsogo as Tshepo Maubane.

We celebrate Tsogo’s 35 years of excellence by bringing you  our conversations with two outstanding Class of 2009 matriculants. Our second honoured new alumna Ms. Lesego Phateng obtained 7 distinctions in 2009 and is one of the most inspiring and focused young women from our community.

Alumni Society Secretary Mr. Thabo Ncalo caught up with Mr. Maubane on campus in Hatfield, Pretoria and Ms. Phateng at her new Student Centre at University of Jhb. (RAU)  to find out how they achieved their amazing results and where they see themselves in the years to come.

Dear Alumni and Friends of Tsogo

I hope this email finds you all well in 2010! We are kicking off this exciting year for South Africa with plans to take the alumni society to new heights – but cannot do this without your care, guidance and assistance. This year we hope to intensify our fundraising efforts, reach more Tsogo alumni and undertake more initiatives for the school, teachers, learners and Mmakau community.
