Tsogo Alumni 4th Annual Careers & Study Expo
Thursday 25th March 2010
Report By Thabo Ncalo
The first quarter in 2010 has been a productive one for the alumni society. We’re glad to report that our 4th Annual Expo was a great success! This year we managed to host 7 academic institutions and 12 companies / organisations and exposed all Tsogo Grade 9 to 12 learners (approximately 400 learners) to a range of careers and study fields.
In true Tsogo tradition the event opened with some melodic singing and prayer at assembly followed by a welcome address from Mr. Assi (school principal) . He welcomed all guests and alumni – and especially Mr. Thema who is the Circuit Manager (Bojanala Region) in the Department of Education.
The welcome address was followed by a brief address by Mr. Thabo Ncalo (Alumni society secretary) who spoke about the role of alumni at Tsogo and the importance of instilling a culture of giving-back. He urged the learners to “be inquisitive” and ask many questions as possible – both on the day and generally in life.
The final address was by Tsogo’s Representative Council of Learners (RCL) President Mr. Morne Sibanyoni(Grade 12) who gave a short inspiring talk urging his fellow students to use the day productively and learn from all presenters. To paraphrase his words – “…we are hungry and these guys are here to feed us! Let’s take this food – let’s feed our knowledge and be full!”
Thank you to all institutions and presenters who took their time to visit Tsogo to educate and inspire our learners. Thank you for all the gifts, brochures and other material. Finally – thank you to all LEARNERS, ALUMNI, DONORS AND VENDORS FOR MAKING OUR EXPO A GREAT SUCCESS…!
