Dear Alumni and Friends of Tsogo

I hope this email finds you all well in 2010! We are kicking off this exciting year for South Africa with plans to take the alumni society to new heights – but cannot do this without your care, guidance and assistance. This year we hope to intensify our fundraising efforts, reach more Tsogo alumni and undertake more initiatives for the school, teachers, learners and Mmakau community. We will be publishing our regular ‘Alumni News’ newsletter to update you on the alumni society’s activities and plans for 2010 in the next week so we hope this will give you more information on our activities and plans. We also wish to thank the ‘web & on-line’ team for their continued dedication and updates – please visit the Tsogo Alumni page regularly (http://tsogoalumni.org.za) to keep yourself updated or join the ‘Tsogo High School Scholars: Past & Present’ group on Facebook.

U.C.T. ‘Open Afternoon’ – Saturday, 13th February 2010

We are very excited to host the University of Cape Town at Tsogo for an afternoon next Saturday (13th February 2010). Student Recruitment Officers and Managers from UCT will be visiting the Gauteng region and have agreed to visit and speak to Grade 11 and 12 learners (and their parents / guardians) about study options at UCT. We are extremely excited and appreciate UCT’s commitment to reach schools  located as far away from Cape Town as our humble Mmakau Village! Since most of our learners are unable to attend the annual Open Day at UCT, we’re happy to ‘bring Cape Town to Mmakau’!

To make the event more inclusive and valuable to the broader community – we have invited Grade 11 and 12 learners learners from Malatse-Motsepe & Mothotlung High Schools to also benefit from this interaction with the University of Cape Town. We plan to include learners from neighbouring schools going forward in some of our projects to also extend some of the benefits we hope our learners at Tsogo are gaining from our efforts.
(Please see TSOGO_UCT Afternoon_13 Feb 2010 for more details on the event)

As a final note…

We hope to continue to plough-back what we can at Tsogo and 2010 will be an exciting year for the society! We hope you’ll join us this year as we continue to grow…. It is only through our collective efforts and co-operation that we’ll ensure that Tsogo remains the school that gave us all our solid foundation. Through everyone’s ideas and support we know that Tsogo alumni  can contribute tremendously to maintaining and enhancing the school’s stature as a true ‘Centre of Learning’ for the largely disadvantaged communities it serves. Our work constantly strives to maintain Tsogo as the  “diamond”  it’s always been – as envisaged and built by the Sisters of Mercy & the Catholic Church to whom we owe  our sincere gratitude.

Kind regards,
